NEWS REPORT:CHURCH WOULD'NT MARRY BLACK COUPLE

They had booked their wedding far in advance. The invitations had been sent, the programs printed. But one day before Charles and Te'Andrea Wilson were to be married at the Mississippi church they frequented, they said a pastor told them they would have to find another venue -- because they were black.

There has never been a black wedding at the First Baptist Church in Crystal Springs, Miss., since its founding in 1883. According to Pastor Stan Weatherford, some church members objected so strongly to breaking that precedent, they threatened to oust him from his pastorship.

Rather than risk his job, Weatherford, who is white, said he decided to marry the pair at a black church down the road.

"My 9-year-old was going to the church with us. How would you say to your 9-year-old daughter, 'We cannot get married here because, guess what sweetie, we're black,'" Charles Wilson told ABC's affiliate WAPT-TV.

Outrage over the wedding's forced relocation swept the Jackson suburb of about 5,000 into a media firestorm.

The vast majority of Crystal Springs residents, blacks and whites alike, were "blown away" by the church's decision, said Theresa Norwood, 48, who was born in Crystal Springs and has lived there her entire life.

Norwood said she believes Weatherford should have married the Wilsons regardless of the risk to his job.

According to thegrio.com the Detroit Lions have finally had enough of off-season troubles from their players. The first casualty is cornerback Aaron Berry,24 , whose contract was terminated on Monday morning following his second arrest in less than a month.

Mr.Berry was arrested Saturday in his hometown of Harrisburg, Pa. and charged with three counts of assault. Mr. Berry was also arrested this past June 23rd for DUI charges of hitting parked cars in a parking lot of Hilton Harrisburg Hotel…...(wow)

Here is Detroit Lions President Tom Lewandsaid statementon the release:

“We have repeatedly stressed to everyone in our organization that there will be appropriate consequences when an expected standard of behavior is not upheld,”

Mr.Berry was the fourth Lions player to be arrested since January, and the third to be arrested twice.

It is sad that things such as this happen and someone like Mr. Berry has basically lost his dream job due to ignorance. I do hope that Mr Berry can bounce back from this and prove he can learn from his mistakes. I truly hate to see anyone fall and then fall hard to the point that you lose the one thing you wanted since youth.

The good thing is Berry will be placed on waivers and could be signed by another team.

Detroit Lions cornerback Chris Houston tweeted on Sunday, referencing Berry’s arrest: “You can preach to someone over and over, but if they don’t get it, it’s nothing you can do. They have to learn the hard way.”

According to thegrio.com the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin has made it known that she wants to be considered a judge on American Idol. With that being said the media went crazy .The current judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler are in the midst of a shakeup. Randy maybe replaced by Mariah Carey,and even Jennifer and Tyler are on their way out.

Kathie Lee Gifford of NBC’s Today Kathie Lee & Hoda stated a few days ago…
“If they are looking for a younger demographic, there are a lot of kids out there (who) actually don’t know who Aretha Franklin is. It’s sad, but they don’t,” Gifford said.

Well Ms.Franklin got wind of it and made this statement,

“While I enjoy Kathie Lee and Hoda daily, her assessment is totally wrong! I’ve been to California from Detroit four times this year and Florida. I go wherever I choose to go comfortably on my custom bus.

Further, my audience and fans span the age of 8 to 90! And are multi-ethnic, and I am very well known to young adults, tweens and teens. Their parents play my music and I take care of my business whenever I sign on the dotted line! I’m surprised Kathie Lee did not research my worldwide celebrity audience! She’s usually right on top of things with a great sense of humor, but she’s totally wrong this time. She should research me before she speaks about me. I’m sure she thought she was right; still enjoy Hoda and Kathie Lee! I could enjoy being a judge for a season or two. Let’s kick it up a few notches and have a slammin’, jammin’ season."

I think she would be great at it ….but hey I don’t even know most of her work but I am not afraid to learn .NO ONE should be.
