TEENA MARIE PASSES AWAY IN HER SLEEP AT THE AGE OF 54.
March 5, 1956 - December 26, 2010


Award-winning singer-songwriter known for her R&B performances, has died on Sunday, as reported by her manager according to CNN.

TMZ reported that the 54-year-old Grammy nominated singer died in her sleep last night, which was confirmed by Teena’s rep, Lynn Jeter. Reasons or causes of Teena's death are unknown at this time.

She was once known as Rick James’ protégée Teena Marie worked with Rick James when she first gained popularity in the late ‘70s and ‘80s. Her first top ten hit was “I’m Just a Sucker for Your Love” and her biggest hit, according to sound scan, was 1984’s “Lovergirl.”

Two of her albums went platinum and six achieved gold status, according to sound scan.

She was scheduled to play the Fox Theatre in Atlanta on New Years Day.
